Who are the music teachers?

Erica Mulcahy, an accomplished music teacher with a passion for piano, who founded IMBAS in 2018 and established it as a NGO in 2022, in collaboration with benefactor Seyda San. Erica has created a welcoming community space for art and culture in Portugal and her wealth of experience has enabled her to develop the music teaching methodology in use at IMBAS. At its core is a system of learning that promotes the students' development and a positive connection to music. Through her method, students build confidence, refine focus and discover the joy of performance. Her mission is to create an educational environment for our students to express creativity and personal development, celebrate artistic expression and to create an inspiring community.

Adriano is originally from Sardinia, Italy. He holds a masters in piano performance from "L. Canepa" Conservatory of Sassari.

He has participated in numerous masterclasses, won prizes in piano competitions and has performed in concerts throughout Europe. 

He is passionate about classical piano. He teaches beginners up to advanced students; sharing his love of classical music with students of all ages.

Maria is a multilingual teacher and from Riga, Latvia, fluent in English, Russian, Dutch, and Latvian. She graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague, with a bachelor's degree in Jazz Vocals. Maria is an expert in various musical genres and provides personalised singing and piano lessons in various levels and styles. She has a friendly and personal approach, adapting her teaching methods to the needs of her students,  focusing on building up confidence, posture and stage presence.

Nuno's passion for music and dedication to his craft shine through in every beat he plays. His wealth of experience and versatility as a musician have allowed him to collaborate with various bands in the Portuguese music scene, like X-Wife, Best Youth, We Trust or White Haus. Beyond the stage, Nuno's commitment to music education is evident in his lessons. By understanding each student's strengths and preferences, he creates a supportive and engaging learning environment. 

Elisa is a Portuguese international jazz singer who started performing live at the age of 8. Although she pursued other academic subjects, music has remained a source of pleasure, self-discovery, self-love, and confidence. At age 24, she recorded her first album, which became a best-seller in Portugal and earned her the title of the country's best jazz singer in 30 years. Today, she is a passionate and experienced vocal coach for students of all ages and skill levels.

Tomás Boto is a Saxophonist and Clarinetist as well as a composer/arranger. He graduated from the Royal Conservatoire in the Hague with a bachelor's and master's degree in Jazz Saxophone. He is also experienced in composing and arranging for large ensembles. Passionate about Jazz and also interested in diverse genres, he teaches from beginner to advanced students of all ages. Focusing on improvisation and the students own expression in music, Tomás blends theory and technical abilities in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

Born in Bulgaria, Miroslava (Mira) graduated from the Sofia State Musical Academy having studied violin, singing, piano and chamber music. She has performed in numerous International Concerts and Orchestras, including being a part of Michael Buble's concerts in Portugal. Mira is passionate about teaching violin, classical singing and also piano to students of all ages and skill levels.

Eduardo is an experienced teacher and musician with a degree in Jazz e Musica Moderna. He has collaborated with numerous Portuguese artists such as Nena and Carolina de Deus. Eduardo creates a fun and engaging learning experience for his students. He customises lessons to each student's abilities and interests. Eduardo is passionate about inspiring the next generation of talented musicians. 

Leonor is a talented piano and singing teacher who started her musical journey at EMNSC when she was six years old. Since then, music has been the center of her life. She completed her studies at the prestigious International College of Musical Theatre in London, where she received the Overall Musical Theatre Award. With comprehensive education across Portugal, England, and Germany, Leonor has gained extensive knowledge and a strong passion for teaching and motivating her students on their musical journeys.

Becky is a singer, pianist, flutist and songwriter. She is originally from the UK and her love of music spans many styles from opera through to rock. Becky’s lessons combine fun and theory, focusing on developing students’ natural strengths and abilities as well as building confidence.  She enjoys singing performances, both as a soloist and as part of different choirs and ensembles. Her experience includes gigging as a singer-songwriter, holding a choral scholarship in Norwich and most recently performing with the BBC Symphony Chorus in London.
